Marvin Hinton Essays - Interpersonal Relationships,
Marvin Hinton English 101.46 03/01/00 The Expository Essay During life, a critical factor is the relationship with another. There are numerous angles to a relationship that will make it solid or enduring. Looks may appear to be significant however over the long haul they demonstrate not to be. Looks can be changed through medical procedure what's more, can blur with age. There are four characteristics that ought to be found in a decent solid relationship. These four variables will never change regardless of what sort of relationship one is in or what one resembles. The four factors that make a decent relationship are duty, trust, mindful, and correspondence. In any relationship, if any of these four factors are missing then the relationship won't keep going long. Responsibility is a significant factor in building a solid and effective relationship. Responsibility keeps a relationship together through the great and the awful occasions. Regardless of whether a accomplice in a relationship is enduring difficult situations, the couple whenever submitted will pull through. A solid relationship that is submitted will endure the major and the minor emergency of life. A minor emergency that could put a strain on a relationship could be considered as something straightforward, for example, the breaking of a date or one individual having no cash. A significant emergency might be one accomplice heading out to war or leaving town for a while on business. In the event that the relationship is submitted, at that point a couple will endure these emergency. Responsibility is a stage in building a solid relationship. Marvin Hinton 2 The second piece of an effective relationship is trust. Trust resembles the I love you of a relationship. Trust implies that when one accomplice needs to go out for a night on the town with their companions that they won't cheat. At the point when a couple is out together for a night that the other accomplice won't play with others in the room. A couple that believes each other will give each other space to do whatever them might feeling like doing. Trust permits a relationship to develop on the grounds that there isn't the consistent concern of what the other party is doing. Trust is when there are chosen obligations that each accomplice may have and ensures are satisfied. Obligations, for example, ensuring the garbage is taken out or the bills are paid on schedule. Building trust in a relationship could even comprise of ensuring that if there is a supper date that the two gatherings are on schedule. Despite the fact that wrecking trust can occur in a moment, building trust takes heaps of time. Building trust in a relationship takes time and exertion while pulverizing it could be as basic as cheating or not showing up when a date is planned. The third piece of a fruitful relationship is mindful. It is extremely unlikely to really depict what caring is nevertheless it is a close piece of any relationship. Caring is an inclination or feeling. Caring is an inclination or feeling that can't be promptly portrayed in words yet at the same time a feeling. Caring is feeling the loss of your accomplice when they are away or being pitiful when they are most certainly not feeling admirably. Minding in a relationship is a feeling that must be portrayed utilizing other feelings. At the point when two individuals care for one another in a relationship structure a bond which is difficult to earn back the original investment when sound judgment reveals to them that they have to. This bond is so solid that even oppressive couples will remain together. The couple feels that they care for each other enough that the maltreatment doesn't make a difference. Caring is the texture of building a solid relationship. The fourth and most significant piece of a relationship is correspondence. Interchanges is the issue solver of a relationship and could likewise be the destroyer of Marvin Hinton 3 a relationship. Correspondence is significant on the grounds that the start of any relationship. Any relationship begins with correspondence since that is the way you meet the individual. A relationship won't begin if the correspondence isn't there. Correspondence isolates an absolutely physical relationship with no significance from a genuine solid relationship. Correspondence in a relationship ought to be straightforward. Correspondence makes two individuals one. At the point when two or three realizes every others different preferences correspondence is solid. Correspondence lets a couple talk about their issues and can help settle a considerable lot of them. In a relationship with no correspondence a little issue can cause a fracture which will prompt a separation. This is the reason correspondence is an

Financial and Human Resources Management - SEEN EXAMINATION Essay
Money related and Human Resources Management - SEEN EXAMINATION - Essay Example These archives look to show the conceivable expense of effectively doing the development venture, on the off chance that it is granted. Interestingly, offering alludes both to the refinement of conditions so as to show up at the last and most balanced cost, and the, legally binding terms that must be submitted to advertisers or their delegates. The subsequent stage (likewise alluded to as offer arbitration), involves assessment of the plausible safety buffers in set up quotes, potential dangers, just as the presumable budgetary effects of finishing the undertaking. Choices that are made by official faculty concerning offer mediation are typically affirmed at a proper show as Gray and Larson, (2003) notes. Such a conventional gathering to settle on choices as to offer mediation happens a few days preceding arrangement of the last offer. This gives satisfactory time to free evaluation from offer accreditations before real offering. The conventional gathering additionally guarantees tha t all the applicable data is considered before a temporary worker is picked, subsequently abstaining from choosing a contractual worker that can't completely convey on venture necessities. The contemplations made by administrators incorporate factors, for example, intense rivalry, vulnerability in quotes, insufficient or poor data in regards to a specific task, and dangers related with creation or venture usage. These perspectives must be adequately dissected, since, as Akintoye and Fitzgerald (2000, p. 164) propose, ââ¬Å"the most noteworthy components bringing about erroneous assessments incorporate inadequate time for delicate arrangement; poor delicate documentation; deficient investigation of the documentation by the evaluating group and absence of survey of quotes by organization management.â⬠Despite the wide variety of difficulties, official work force need to settle on proper arbitration choices dependent on these variables. The viewpoints that impact managementââ¬â ¢s choices during the pivotal offering procedure and arbitration specifically can be characterized, as per Betts (1990, pp. 402-408), into three classes including occupation, market, and friends related components. The five star of occupation related angles, represents components that are straightforwardly connected to the particular undertaking or task type. The greater part of these variables are assessed over the span of getting ready offers and an examination of these angles is passed on to important gatherings in the arbitration show. Market-related dynamic variables, represent the outside impacts, for example, rivalry from different temporary workers. Examination of viewpoints like outside rivalry may empower the particular firm to detail techniques that would help in expanding upper hand. At last, as Betts (1990, p. 403) states ââ¬Å"company-related components that impact dynamic in the arbitration procedure, include: the businessââ¬â¢ objectives and targets, just as, it s corporate arrangement on bidding.â⬠Adjudicators, for the most part contained ranking executives or administrators, are assumed, as Young, (2003), notes, to assess the previously mentioned factors and related data, in evaluating venture quotes and concluding the cost of the agreement. As appeared in the evaluation above, there are various contemplations in the offering procedure. Along these lines, leaders should completely fathom the specified targets and objectives of the procedure, notwithstanding evaluated venture costs, so as to guarantee that offering is reasonable and that it is lined up with the

Life Insurance and the Role It Plays in Risk Management Assignment
Essays on Life Insurance and the Role It Plays in Risk Management Assignment The paper "Life Insurance and the Role It Plays in Risk Management" is a worthy example of an assignment on finance and accounting. Life insurance is an essential part of financial planning to mitigate the risks of death and the consequential financial difficulties of family members. An insurance company creates the common corpus fund out of the premiums received from subscribers and pays out claims from the same. Different types of policies cater to the specific needs of individuals and the cost/benefit analysis is important before choosing the right type of policy.à Life InsurancePrinciple of life insuranceThe word ââ¬Ëinsuranceââ¬â¢ means a provision against risk. Hence, life insurance is a cover for any possible risk of loss of life. By taking a life insurance policy, the insured is transferring the risk of financial loss to which his/her family may be subjected in the event of death, to the insurer. In practical terms, life insurance is a business activity and has three dimensions to it viz., the social, business and legal (Anon, n.d., the americancollege.edu). In social terms, a large number of people pay premiums to create the corpus fund from which the insurance company pays out claim checks; in business terms, the insurance company does not pay anything from its pocket but creates and manages the corpus fund, which is used to cover the management and administrative expenses, payout claims and invest the balance in profitable ventures; in legal terms, the insurance policy is a contract on the basis of agreed terms, between the insurer and the insured to indemnify the insured against financial loss caused by death. Under the contract, the risk is transferred from the insured to the insurer, for the consideration of premiums paid. Why do people buy life insurance?Life insurance is a risk management act (Anon, n.d., americancollege.edu). While death is certain as one age, there is always the risk of a person dying before accumulating enough wealth t o take care of his/her obligations including the financial security of the family. In the normal course, the person would have planned to discharge the obligations from out of his earnings, investments, and savings. If the personââ¬â¢s life is cut short for any unexpected reason, the financial burden of obligations like mortgage payments, childrenââ¬â¢s education, healthcare and retirement expenses, etc. would shift to the rest of the family members, who may not be in a position to honor/bear them. Hence, people buy life insurance to at least partly mitigate such risk. What are the benefits/drawbacks of universal life insurance?Universal life insurance is a policy that provides for life cover and tax-deferred savings facility simultaneously (Sage, n.d, about.com). It is thus a life insurance plan as well as an investment plan. One of the benefits of universal life insurance is that if the policy period is long enough to permit good accumulations in the tax-deferred savings part of the policy, it will not be necessary to pay premiums for the entire policy period. At the same time, for this benefit to accrue one has to have the policy beyond the age of 70 or so at which point in time, most people do not need life insurance at all. While it is possible to access funds from the savings part of the policy to meet any contingency, the corresponding amounts are reduced from the payout to be given to the beneficiary (Anon., 2009, goinsurance.com). Finally, this type of policy may be more expensive than normal term policies. Why would compare only the cost of life insurance coverage not be a completely valid approach to determining the best policy?A personââ¬â¢s insurance needs depend upon several factors such as age, education, nature of employment and related risks, current/potential future earnings, financial needs of the family, etc. With so many variables, it is natural that different insurance products with differing costs are available. Individuals have t o choose such a policy that best fits their life situation and financial planning needs, and consider the costs as secondary. Once a policy type is chosen, then the coverage value can be tailored to be within affordable costs.

Deviant Behavior Essays - Criminology, Social Constructionism
Deviant Behavior A person would be considered to be acting deviantly in society if they are violating what the significant social norm in that particular culture is. What causes humans to act certain ways is a disputed topic among researchers for some time now. There are three types of researchers that have tried to answer this question. There is the psychological answer, biological answer, and the sociological answer. With all of the studies that have been performed, no one group has come up with an exact reason to why people behave deviantly. Although, sociologists' theories have not been disproved as often as the psychologists' and biologists' theories because their experiments are too hard to define and no one definition for deviance is agreed upon by all experimenters (Pfuhl, 40). My own curiosity to find out what the influences are behind deviant behavior is the purpose for this paper. We have already discussed this topic during class in part two, chapter four of the textbook which explains dev iance and crime. This section talks more about deviance being a learned behavior. I wanted to find out more information to see if biological factors are also behind this kind of behavior. The most knowledge acquired for why people act deviantly is from the sociological perspective. There is need for more research, if possible, in the psychological and biological perspectives, but there is a lot more known in the sociological viewpoint. The reality that the definition of deviant behavior is considered different by everyone makes it complicated and unknown if a truly accurate answer can ever be found (Pfuhl 18). This is why this topic is important to the study of sociology. Sociologists have more information, and therefore may be closer to finding the cause. For this reason, my main focus in this paper is at the sociological stand point of deviance with some explanations from psychologists and biologists. The family is the link to socialization in one's environment (Four Categories 1). In the family, divorce, conflict within family, neglect, abuse, and deviant parents are the main vindicates for the offspring's actions. Early researches first only thought parental absence affects girls and whites. Modern research finds that the lack of supervision, or support a child needs is a link to delinquency in any race. It occurs more in single parent homes because they have a harder time doing those things. Poverty is also a reason in the family for conflict because it can lead to both family breakups and delinquency. Children need close, supportive, relationships with parents. What promotes deviance in the home is the inhibition to talk to parents. The child may feel that they need to get attention elsewhere, thus acting deviantly if their parents are not there for them. Parents can prevent this by being competent, non-punitive (to a point), non-aggressive or violent, and teach their child hi gh self-confidence. Family conflict has more damaging effects on children than divorce. Where as parental death has less impact than divorce (Four Categories 2). When a parent dies a child at least knows that the parent did not want to leave on his own terms and probably also did not inflict any abuse to his or her psyche before the parent passes away. Also, if a child still has contact with both parents after a divorce, the less likely they will feel neglected and react deviantly. Family size also leaves an adolescent without the necessary attention they need as an individual. Middle children are more likely to behave deviantly because they go unnoticed more than their younger or older siblings. The legal definitions of abuse and neglect varies from state to state but does, in any form, create serious consequences for behavior. It occurs in patterns and not just once, which causes stress, poor self-esteem, aggressiveness, lack of empathy, and fewer interactions with peers. Child abuse is any physical or emotional trauma to a child for which no reasonable explanation is found. Neglect refers to the deprivation that children suffer at the hands of parents (Devinace 1). Such components that comply to these definitions are non-accidental physical injury and neglect, emotional abuse or neglect, sexual abuse, and abandonment. Over one million of the youth in America are

The Invention of Radio Technology
The Invention of Radio Technology Radio owes its development to two other inventions: the telegraph and the telephone.à All three technologies are closely related, and radio technology actually began as wireless telegraphy. The term radio can refer to either the electronic appliance that we listen with or to the content that plays from it. In any case, it all started with the discovery of radio waves- electromagnetic waves that have the capacity to transmit music, speech, pictures, and other data invisibly through the air. Many devices work by using electromagnetic waves, including radios, microwaves, cordless phones, remote controlled toys, televisions, and more. The Roots of Radio Scottish physicistà James Clerk Maxwell first predicted the existence of radio waves in the 1860s. In 1886, German physicistà Heinrich Rudolph Hertz demonstrated that rapid variations of electric current could be projected into space in the form of radio waves, similar to light waves and heat waves. In 1866, Mahlon Loomis, an American dentist, successfully demonstrated wireless telegraphy. Loomis was able to make a meter connected to a kite cause a meter connected to another nearby kite to move. Thisà marked the first known instance of wireless aerial communication. But it was Guglielmo Marconi, an Italian inventor, who proved the feasibility of radio communication. He sent and received his first radio signal in Italy in 1895. In 1899, he flashed the first wireless signal across the English Channel, and two years later received the letter S, which was telegraphed from England to Newfoundland (now part of Canada). This was the first successful transatlantic radiotelegraph message. In addition to Marconi, two of his contemporaries,à Nikola Tesla and Nathan Stufflefield, took out patents for wireless radio transmitters. Nikola Tesla is now credited with being the first person to patent radio technology. The Supreme Court overturned Marconis patent in 1943 in favor of Teslas. The Invention of Radiotelegraphy Radiotelegraphy is the sending by radio waves of the same dot-dash message (Morse code) used by telegraphs. Transmitters, at the turn of the century, were known as spark-gap machines. They were developed mainly for ship-to-shore and ship-to-ship communication. This form of radiotelegraphy allowed for simple communication between two points. However, it was not public radio broadcasting as we know it today. The use of wireless signaling increased after it was proved to be effective in communication for rescue work at sea. Soon a number of ocean liners even installed wireless equipment. In 1899, the United States Army established wireless communications with a lightship off Fire Island, New York. Two years later, the Navy adopted a wireless system. Up untilà then, the Navy had been using visual signaling and homing pigeons for communication. In 1901, radiotelegraph service was established between five Hawaiian Islands. In 1903, a Marconi station located in Wellfleet, Massachusetts,à carried an exchange between President Theodore Roosevelt and King Edward VII. In 1905, the naval battle of Port Arthur in the Russo-Japanese war was reported by wireless. And in 1906, the U.S. Weather Bureau experimented with radiotelegraphy to speed up notice of weather conditions. Robert E. Peary, an arctic explorer, radiotelegraphedà I found the Pole in 1909. A year later, Marconi established regular American-European radiotelegraph service, which several months later enabled an escaped British murderer to be apprehended on the high seas. In 1912, the first transpacific radiotelegraph service was established,à linking San Francisco with Hawaii. Meanwhile, overseas radiotelegraph service developed slowly, primarily because the initial radiotelegraph transmitter was unstable and caused a high amount of interference. The Alexanderson high-frequency alternator and the De Forest tube eventually resolved many of these early technical problems. The Advent of Space Telegraphy Lee de Forest was the inventor of space telegraphy, the triode amplifier, and the Audion, an amplifying vacuum tube. In the early 1900s, the development of radio was hampered by the lack of an efficient detector of electromagnetic radiation. It was De Forest who provided that detector. His invention made it possible to amplify the radio frequency signal picked up by antennae. This allowed for the use of much weaker signals than had previously been possible. De Forest was also the first person to use the word radio. The result of Lee de Forests work was the invention of amplitude-modulated or AM radio, which allowed for a multitude of radio stations. It was a huge improvement over the earlier spark-gap transmitters. True Broadcasting Begins In 1915, speech was first transmitted by radio across the continent from New York City to San Francisco and across the Atlantic Ocean. Five years later, Westinghouses KDKA-Pittsburgh broadcastedà the Harding-Cox election returns and began a daily schedule of radio programs. In 1927, commercial radiotelephonyà service linking North America and Europe was opened.à In 1935, the first telephone call was made around the world using a combination of wire and radio circuits. Edwin Howard Armstrongà invented frequency-modulated or FM radio in 1933. FM improved the audio signal of radio by controlling the noise static caused by electrical equipment and the earths atmosphere. Until 1936, all American transatlantic telephone communication had to be routed through England. That year, a direct radiotelephone circuit was opened to Paris. In 1965, the first Masterà FM Antenna systemà in the world, designed to allow individual FM stations to broadcast simultaneously from one source, was erected on the Empire State Building in New York City.

The expectations of English colonists in Chesapeake and New England Essay
The expectations of English colonists in Chesapeake and New England - Essay Example Immediately after entering in 1607 the muddy outposts the English colonists referred to as Jamestown, Smith observed the inappropriateness of the orders given by the pioneers of the colony with the pressures of survival and endurance on the Anglo-American border. The Native American lands which the British colonists inhabited had corn, while the settlers gave in quickly to diseases as the quantity of their foods declined. Smith eventually initiated a strategy of threats and forced trade. In a matter of weeks Smith had forced from the chiefdom of Powhatan large quantities of corn. As Smith paraded all over the Chesapeake, he became a vicious onlooker of the Algonquian tribes he wanted to conquer. Already fascinated in the richness of human cultures, prior to his entrance to Virginia he had stumbled upon a diversity of peoples in the Middle East, Africa, and Europe. The biographers of Smith claim that his encounters with different human cultures put him in a good position to understand Indian culture and the native people than any other of his contemporaries. Hence, this essay will use the perspective of Captain John Smith to discuss the initial expectations of the English colonists with Chesapeake and New England and how they lived among the Native American Indians.... The forcefulness of the English border population devastated as well as the agenda of George Thorpe to acculturate and civilize the Powhatan Indians into a Christian and English New World realm. The demands of the border population generated the 1622 Indian rebellion, which hampered the development of the colony, sped up the collapse of the Virginia Company of London, and compelled elites to reject any idea of humanitarian Indian strategy. In defending the missionary attempts, the pioneers of the company dealt with the issue of the right of Englishmen to Indian lands. Some English scholars compared the Native American Indians to wild beasts who do not know private ownership. A report of the Virginia Company claimed that it is not illegal or immoral to take over the land of the Indians and inhabit them because there is no other reasonable alternative to discuss this matter with the natives but through coercion. The Virginia Company never reached, nor did it try, an ultimate resolution to the issue of aboriginal title. Only invasion, the pioneers argued, could not rationalize occupation of the Indian soil. Rather, the Company was predisposed to consider English occupation as an ââ¬Ëirreversible deedââ¬â¢ and to defend its continuance on the basis that the Indians would give in to Christianity and dealt with compassionately. The process of conversion could, and ought to be, diplomatic. While the Spaniards invaded the West Indies with bloodshed and brutality, the English would employ humane and benevolent means, appropriate to the natural character of the English. An expectation that the Indians would willingly dispose of their own cultural

The topic is Prostitution Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
The topic is Prostitution - Research Paper Example A mere act of law will possibly not solve all the problems related to this issue. It might be argued by some people that legalizing prostitution will make it easier to control the dark and corrupt side of this trade. It will give some measure of dignity to the sex workers. It will ensure they get regular health check-ups and they are not left to the mercy of unscrupulous pimps or customers. They shall be better paid and ultimately like any other organized sector they shall get some measure of legal protection. (Hayes-Smith and Shekarkhar, 50) Although this is one way of looking at it there is another viewpoint, which considers prostitution to be a threat to the institution of marriage. According to this group legalizing prostitution will result in the break-up of many marriages, as it will make it easier for spouses to cheat on their partners. One might argue that a faithful spouse shall remain so even if prostitution is legalized. So if in the long run legalizing this trade results in some long-term benefits for the women concerned it should be seriously considered. (Hayes-Smith and Shekarkhar, 53) It has been discovered that indoor sex workers are less likely to face violence than prostitutes who work on the streets. Surveys conducted in Vancouver, British Columbia have revealed that about 67% of the indoor sex workers had never faced any violence in their profession. This survey concentrated on massage parlors, escort agencies and women who worked as independent sex workers. This was in stark contrast to the violence faced by women who worked on the streets of Vancouver. Here the rate of violence was as high 98% and it is obvious from this survey that indoor sex work is safer than working on the streets. I n the United Kingdom Jeal and Salisbury reported that 79% of their indoor sex workers had never faced violence. Another survey conducted by Sanders and Campbell found that around 76% to 79% of the indoor sex workers had never experienced violence (Oââ¬â¢Doherty, 218). So if the Government legalizes prostitution the women will no longer have to work on the streets. They can operate from their own private set-ups without fear of prosecution. This will give them greater autonomy and more litheness. They will no longer be at the mercy of pimps and middlemen. à à à à à à à à à A lack of awareness and education puts most prostitutes at a disadvantage. As a result of this when they face violence of any kind they are unable to fight for their rights. Moreover there is a feeling among certain sections of the public that anybody engaged in this kind of profession deserve what they get .A prostitute who complains of violence by the customer is therefore not likely to receive much sympathy. Legalization of prostitution will enable women to fight for their rights. It will also protect them from corrupt law-enforcement officials. There has be en a rise in the level of prostitution in Russia. Unfortunately little action has been taken by the State to regulate and control this industry. As a result of this venereal diseases and HIV infection has spread rapidly. IT Ethics and Security Essay Example for Free
IT Ethics and Security Essay Piracy has always been a concern with technology over the years. Organizations strive hard to analyze the requirement of the hour of computer users and then develop software that can fully ease the problems of a user. The organizations that develop software obviously need to have a return for their attempt. The software developersââ¬â¢ job is a tough one, because they put off their sleep in order to maintain a tempo in the development of software and organizations often find it difficult to meet the exact requirements on ordered software, due to which several revisions are done on the software before it gets into a final product. The software development market is generally divided into two categories, Open Source software and Close Source software. The Open Source software is the one that are free to use, and the organizations or individual developers who develop this software encourage its distribution, usage and at times modifications according to the requirement of the user. The Source code, which has all the development procedures are provided to the user in this category, therefore the modifications become easy when the software gets into the hand of another developer. (Frederick, 2007) These are great for learning purpose and often are used by immature developers to get help in development. The Close Source software are contrastingly different, the users need to buy these software just like any product in the market and often these kind of software get customer support and trainings ââ¬Å"how toâ⬠, so that the user gets full value for his money. The close source software is ones, that are stable and they go through different processes before its final launch. The organization that develop these software often register them with their name so that copyrights and license usage law is applied on them. The licensure law ensures the organization that the software bought but a person will be used according to organizationââ¬â¢s specified conditions. (Albacea, 2005) In this particular case where the friend is offering to split the cost is a violation of licensure law. Microsoft is a large enterprise and it develops close source software that are copyrighted and licensed according to their terms and conditions. When my friend bought Microsoft Office, in the product pack he had been provided the terms for use of the product, which states that sharing of the product is a violation to the licensure law. Ethically this is very wrong because Microsoft develops the software after several procedures and analyzing the market conditions, and the price $300 for the office suite the charged is based upon cost analysis of one person. The sharing of one-user license is almost equal to as stealing of a product; because the organization is charging for once only from the user but at the same price another user using the same product free of cost. There have been several discussions conducted in small to large enterprises that develop software about piracy and violation of usage licensure. However many steps have been taken to minimize the violation and organizations also offer some package deals where multiple licenses are discounted which saves a lot of cost of user. This ethical violation of licensure law has been minimized to some extend now due to efforts but it also depends upon the inner self of a person to realize the attempt that an organization does in order to develop the software and stealing the software reduced their return which is an ethical issue.

Weed Kill Experiment Report :: essays research papers
Weed Kill Report ABSTRACT - The objective of this experiment is to determine which of three weed kill methods will be most successful in killing the Cobblers peg weed over a five day period. Two of the weed kill methods are natural - boiling water and vinegar solution. One of the weed kill methods is a weed spray Yates ZERO. The most effective weed kill was found by examining how fast and effectively each weed kill treatment killed its group of seventeen weeds which were separated into one of three foam boxes over a period of five days. The most successful method was found to be one of the natural methods, boiling water. The next best method was the herbicide and then the least successful method was the vinegar solution which killed none of its weeds. INTRODUCTION ââ¬â My initial observation was that simple conservation actions such as reducing the use of pesticides can achieve measurable improvements in habitat quality and environmental health. Herbicides are toxic to most mammals as well as to the beneficial insects that you want to encourage in your garden. Sometimes herbicides seep into the ground water; causing contamination of which the long term effects are not known. Herbicide application can also result in drift or movement in the soil, this endangers wanted vegetation nearby. Herbicides are used far too rampantly. Excessive use of toxic herbicides is used when not necessary and because most are not aware of the many other natural alternatives. We must find more ways to cut back on the use of chemical herbicides and change to biological weed control methods. Foreign plants which turn into weeds are continuously being introduced to Australia both accidentally and intentionally. They can cause extreme damage to Australiaââ¬â¢s environment, as they threaten the survival of many native plants. They are successful in growing as they - usually grow faster than native plants competing for nutrients, water, space etc, they survive better as they do not have the pests and diseases that would normally control them in their natural habitats, they take over the native plants that the native animals use for shelter, food and nesting. The Cobblers peg (Bidens pilosa) also known as farmers friend, Spanish needle and beggars tick was introduced from South America and has become a weed in Australia. Individual flowers are yellow with white petals and do not last for very long, eventually turning into seeds.

Failure Analysis Strategy Change Essay
Movies have always been a past time enjoyed by many. As the technology continues to grow, many video stores are going out of business and digital or online movies are rising in popularity. Blockbuster Video and Netflix are businesses that have been affected by these changes. Blockbuster opened in 1985 with the mission statement of ââ¬Å"Our corporate mission is to provide our customers with the most convenient access to media entertainment, including movie and game entertainment delivered through multiple distribution channels such as our stores, by mail, vending and kiosks, online and at home. We believe Blockbuster offers customers a value-prices entertainment experience, combining the broad product depth of a specialty retailer with local neighborhood convenienceâ⬠(Farfan, 2010). Blockbuster continued with the vision statement of ââ¬Å"At Blockbuster, diversity means valuing differences. Itââ¬â¢s corporate value that must be continually developed, embraced, and incorporated into the way we do businessâ⬠(Farfan, 2010). Blockbuster operated with more than 7,400 stores worldwide and also operated through 1,600 franchise stores. As technology started to change, customers began streaming movies from the Internet as well as using kiosks, such as Redbox, for movie rentals. Competition became a large factor in Blockbuster and the failing of the company, but a large part of the failure was due to manage changes and misunderstanding of the business as a whole (Dunston, 2014). Blockbuster Failure In 2006 and 2007, Blockbuster was approached by the CEO of Netflix, Reed Hastings, asking them to acquire Netflix. Hastings knew that Netflix had not formulated a plan to stop Blockbuster from stealing their customers, at the rate of a million per year. Blockbuster decided that the company did notà need Netflix because Blockbuster had a stronger and larger growth, but then a change that was never expected happened. A new CEO was named for Blockbuster after a boardroom dispute. The man appointed CEO didnââ¬â¢t fully understand the business and what Blockbuster needed in order to remain above the competition, especially Netflix. The CEO started changing plans for the company and even pulled out the Internet efforts that had been in place for Blockbuster. Within 18 months, 85% of the capital value of the company had been lost; within in 2 years, it was completely gone (Dunston, 2014). Netflix Netflix views themselves as ââ¬Å"freedom of on-demand and the fun of indulgent viewingâ⬠(Netflix, 2014). Netflix also focuses on the convenience of the no-hassle, online cancellation and offer movies and TV series network. Technology and good leadership is how Netflix became the leader in the industry (Halal, 2010). Netflix executives understood that the emerging technology was rapidly changing the delivery of movie rentals. CEO, Hastings, developed ââ¬Å"strategies involving Internet streaming, convenient customer service, and the virtual organization to deliver it cheaply and flawlesslyâ⬠(Halal, 2010). Another part of Netflixââ¬â¢s technology strategy was to avoid the burden of having to go to a video store for customers. Customer service is key to a successful business, so Hastings used a monthly subscription to allow customers to have access to unlimited rentals, including no late fees. Instead of the hassle of renting movies, the focus is providing convenience. With the mission statement and vision of ââ¬Å" Our core strategy is to grow our streaming subscription business domestically and globally. We are continually improving the customer experience, with a focus on expanding our streaming content, enhancing our user interface and extending our streaming service to even more Internet-connected devices, while staying within the parameters of our consolidated net income and operating segment contribution profit targets,â⬠shows that the company wants the best for the company as well as their customers (Netflix, 2014). NetFlix Organizational Theories In reading many articles online about the success of NETFLIX the two organizational behavior theories that have been seen in this company have been decision-making and system approaches. Netflixââ¬â¢s huge decision to become a virtual DVD rental via online instead of going to actual in-store purchases like Blockbuster, has placed them at the top of the food chain. The technological advances alone for Netflix has change the industry forever, they took the systems approach by understanding the companyââ¬â¢s input and output process and integrated the drive in developing new adaptive capacities and innovation. Blockbusterââ¬â¢s organization theory of scientific leadership placed a great deal into how the company ran itââ¬â¢s in store business and how the objectives and decisions were placed within the company. If Blockbuster could focus more on the click feature like how Netflix did, and not dismiss the idea that it would be a revolutionary change in the industry and within Blockbusters stockholders. Roles of Leadership and Management Per Netflix (2014) it has a ââ¬Å"functional organizational structure, which aims at its functions themselves, rather than by customer segments or regionsâ⬠. They have a CEO; Reed Hastings has 6 departments that have managers within them that run it. The organization beyond those 6 managers is not as structured as the top echelon is, they run their departments as they see fit. The CEO has instilled in their managers the management style of ââ¬Å"Context, not Controlâ⬠(Siegler), implying that very little control is given to employees, rather employees are held responsible for their actions and are expected to work efficiently and independently. Because of this idealists approach to management and how successful the company has been with it, they have found that they have no need to change their management style yet. Organizational value within Netflix has been on promoting the ââ¬Å"stunning colleaguesâ⬠(Netflix.com, 2014), and their importance in a great workplace. They have 9 values that they show is priority number 1 at Netflix, ââ¬Å" judgment, impact, curiosity, innovation, courage, passion, honesty and selflessness (Siegler). The basic values that they believe as a company are workplace efficiency, emphasis on effective over effort, management best practices, retention practices, and large emphasis on a large salary, rather than stock options and bonuses. They believe that thisà creates an environment that promotes productivity, and efficient work environment, which shows in colleague retention and overall happiness at Netflix. Part 2: Leading Organizational Change As the CEO of Blockbuster it is my responsibility to evaluate the organizations structure as well as the power and political issues within the company. The CEO can be disconnected to what is going on at the operations level of the company if he or she does not put forth the effort to be involved. As the CEO I will be involved in the operations of the company and be a leader employees can look up to. To implement the organizations change I will use a strategy based on John Kotterââ¬â¢s 8 step plan for change. John Kotterââ¬â¢s 8 steps are ââ¬Å"establishing a sense of urgency, forming a powerful guiding coalition, creating a vision, communicating the vision, empowering others to act on the vision, planning for and creating short-term wins, consolidating improvements and producing still more changes, institutionalizing new approachesâ⬠(Mintzberg, Lampel, Quinn 2003). As the CEO of blockbuster I see that technology is changing and we must keep up. If we do not keep up with the technological advances we are doomed to fail. I see the company as a technology company and not just a movie rental company. I do not want Blockbuster to just survive, I want Blockbuster to thrive. Blockbuster will start investing in new internet technologies and streaming services. We will align ourselves with major motion picture studios to ensure that we get the newest movies and offer our customers the best services possible. Upper management will actively seek new opportunities and new world markets to expand our services. All employees will be encouraged to provide new ideas and mediocrity will not be accepted. Every aspect of the company will be evaluated and our services will provide our customers with the greatest movie streaming value. Reference Dunston, Dain (2014). Recognizing Power And Relationship Between Shakespeare s...
Recognizing Power and Relationship Dynamics Through Simile In Shakespeare William Shakespeareââ¬â¢s use of simile in A Midsummer Nightââ¬â¢s Dream explicitly expressed hierarchy, power, and male dominance, which all contributes to shaping the relationships between many of his characters. This theme is echoed throughout the play as Shakespeare demonstrates the differences between male and female characters. In the opening scene, Hermia refuses to follow her fatherââ¬â¢s orders to marry Demetrius and instead, demands to stay with Lysander. To act on the situation, Egeus appeals to the duke, Theseus, to force his daughter to marry Demetrius. Turning to Hermia, Theseus then tells her: What say you, Hermia? Be advised fair maid. To you your father should be as a god, One that composed your beauties, yea, and one To whom you are but as a form in wax, By him imprinted, and within his power To leave the figure or disfigure it. Demetrius is a worthy gentleman. (Shakespeare 1.1.46-52) The simile being observed here compares Egeus, the father of Hermia, to a god. In this sense, a god is a very strong figure. The play is set in Athenian times when Greek gods were heavily portrayed, so this reference holds supremacy in its meaning. Shakespeareââ¬â¢s utilization of simile not only presents the problem at hand, but also works to outline an underlying theme of power while revealing how the characters seem to view each other. The use of simile early on in the play successfully shapes how influentialShow MoreRelated A Cubist Perspective of Shakespeares A Midsummer Nights Dream2475 Words à |à 10 PagesA Cubist Perspective of Shakespeares A Midsummer Nights Dream à à à à à The great cycle of the ages is renewed.
